Product Description

Platinum dichloride is a gray-green or brown powder that decomposes when heated to 581C in a chlorine gas flow. Insoluble in water, soluble in ammonia, soluble in hot hydrochloric acid to form chloroplatinous acid. platinum dichloride reacts with alkali metal chlorides to form a complex. It is produced by heating spongy platinum with dry chlorine or heating chloroplatinic acid to 200C. Platinum dichloride is used to make platinum salts.
